About Canada Army Run
Canada Army Run is the fastest growing run in Canada and unlike any other run in the country. From the cannon used as a starter’s pistol to the “dog-tag” medals all participants receive when they cross the finish line, Canada Army Run is military in flavour end-to-end. Military bands, Army equipment displays, and a pasta dinner served military field-kitchen style make for a weekend you won’t soon forget!
More importantly, though, the event provides an opportunity for the Army to thank Canadians for their support, and a chance for Canadians to say thanks to the men and women who serve them in so many ways at home and abroad.
Fundraising efforts benefit Soldier On and the Military Families Fund.

“Nothing gives a medal more meaning than the story behind it”
That’s our theme for 2010 Canada Army Run and the focus of this year’s advertising campaign. Check out our ads in a number of publications, including
Canadian Running, Running Room Magazine, and
iRUN Magazine. The individual profiled in the print ads is Private Ryan McKenzie, a 31-year-old reservist from Victoria, B.C, who’s won Canada Army Run’s 5K event for the past two years and who’s planning to return to Ottawa this September to again reclaim his title. You can find out more about Ryan and see the profiles of others here. back to top » |

People run, walk, or wheel in Canada Army Run for many different reasons. Some are trying to break records or achieve personal bests. Some come in memory of parents or grandparents who spent their careers in the military, or of loved ones who lost their lives in the line of duty. Many are honouring sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, or mothers and fathers who are in the military today. Others come to salute Canada’s injured soldiers who participate in the 5K and half marathon events and demonstrate for all the true spirit of “soldiering on”. And thousands of others come to simply thank the men and women of the Canadian Forces for all they do at home and abroad.
Behind the “dog tag” medal that each participant receives when they cross the finish line, there is a story. We’d love to hear yours.

Injured soldiers and athletes with disabilities will continue to inspire in 2010
Canada Army Run will continue to recognize and celebrate the achievements of injured soldiers and athletes with disabilities, who provide inspiration to all by demonstrating the true meaning of “soldiering on”. These inspiring individuals will start 15 minutes prior to the mass start of both the 5K and half marathon events. Come out and cheer them on!
Among the many courageous stories and personal victories throughout last year’s event, two garnered significant media coverage: Orillia-based Rick Ball broke a world record for the single-leg amputee half marathon and Master Corporal Jody Mitic, who lost both legs to a landmine two-and-a-half years prior, completed his first-ever half marathon. Read their stories here. back to top » |
